The Maxine DeHart-United Way, Ramada Hotel Drive-Thru Breakfast returns Thursday, Oct. 17, 6-9 a.m.

Don鈥檛 forget that the Maxine DeHart 鈥 United Way, Ramada Hotel Drive-Thru Breakfast is this week, on Thursday, October 17 from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. No need to bring cash as we have credit card and debit availability. All the sponsors will be there to greet and to direct you in the line-up.  Don鈥檛 worry about getting to work on time, as the line-ups go very quickly with all the volunteers work hard to make your experience a fun way to start your day. Along with all the products that you will be receiving in your bags, the sponsors, along with businesses in our community have provided hundreds of gift cards and prizes to be won randomly in the 1,400 breakfast bags and kids bags that will be given out that morning. You will see a Mario鈥檚 Towing Truck in the Ramada Hotel parking lot to guide you and former RCMP Superintendent Bill McKinnon, along with my husband Chris DeHart and other volunteers will guide you through the line-ups. You will see me either running around or driving in the snazzy golf cart provided by CartsPlus. Remember, all monies stay right here in our community, so please open your hearts and your wallets. After 43 years, Terry-Lee Beaudry, Deputy Superintendent of Schools with the Central Okanagan Public Schools is retiring. Whether fostering relationships with international delegates or supporting students and staff through academic challenges, Terry-Lee鈥檚 influence has been profound. After growing up in the Central Okanagan and graduating from Rutland Senior Secondary, Terry attended the University of British Columbia before returning to the Central Okanagan to teach in 1981. She has led a storied career as teacher, school administrator, Director of Instruction, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent and has been a champion for Truth and Reconciliation. The DeHart鈥檚 have been long-time friends of the Beaudry鈥檚 and Terry-Lee鈥檚 family. We wish Terry-Lee all the fun and enjoyment in her retirement and hope she will drop into the Ramada Hotel for a visit now and then.

Cannes Corporate Media and TV Awards chose Tourism 91大黄鸭鈥檚 鈥淓xplore More of 91大黄鸭 in All Seasons鈥 video to receive a Silver Dolphin in the cities category. This international award was chosen from one of nearly 800 submissions with only 212 making it to the shortlist. The video was supported by businesses and videographer Nic Collar as well as the District of Lake Country and Visit Westside. The video can be viewed on Tourism 91大黄鸭鈥檚 YouTube Channel.  

 

The 91大黄鸭 Yacht Club recently hosted its 24th Annual Blind Fishing Derby. The Derby welcomed 30 participants for a memorable day on Okanagan Lake, offering both fishing and pleasure cruising to visually impaired participants. Organized by the Power Fleet Committee and club volunteers, Joyce Roydell claimed victory with the only catch and Ryan Jopling had everyone in laughs when he reeled in someone else鈥檚 fishing rod.

The RPL Memorial Trophy (Rutland Pickleball League) held its 4th Annual Pickleball Memorial Tournament for their league last week. The tournament was started to honour their former members and buddies who have passed being Kody Umpherville and Chris Anagnostopoulos. The fall 2024 Champions were Kalvin Burgess and Kevin LindsayShawn Spring and Doug Stienstra are the main organizers of the event.

 

Beem Credit Union has announced that applications for the 2025 Million Dollar Bursary Award Season opened on October 9th, 2024. This program is designed to support and empower students across our communities as they pursue their educational aspirations. 91大黄鸭 Buddhist Temple Farmer鈥檚 Market & Bake Sale is Saturday, October 19th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 1089 Borden Avenue.  There will be apples, pears, carrots, cabbage, Nappa, daikon, potatoes, squash, cauliflower, beets, tomatoes, peppers, celery and much more available dependent on supply. There will also be a selection of baked good and Tsukemono (Japanese pickles). 

 

Launch Okanagan Breakfast 2024 is November 5th, 2024 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. at Trinity Church. This year they are doing things a bit differently. Rather than inviting a keynote speaker, they will give the stage to their team and community partners. They will discuss the importance of supporting our community with some of their closet collaborators. They will also unveil their newly filmed impact video which shares the effect of their programs on the community. Their team was deeply inspired by the stories in this video, and they look forward to sharing it with you.  Tickets at 

 

Ballet 91大黄鸭 is presenting in their 24th and 25th Season, Ode AN HOMAGE, presented by the Thomas Alan Budd Foundation on November 8th and 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the 91大黄鸭 Community Theatre. Ode AN HOMAGE is a tribute to Senior Dancer and Senior Artist Desiree Bortolussi who has been with Ballet 91大黄鸭 for 13 years. The 2nd Annual Garry Benson Memorial Golf Tournament was held September 12th, 2024. Sponsored by Title Sponsor Benson Law LLP and Canco, the tournament raised $25,000.00 for BC Cancer . Organizers were Marek Buryska and Kent Harris.

Orchard Valley Quilters Guild is hosting their biennial quilt show at Summerhill Winery on Saturday, November 2nd and Sunday November 3rd. Members will be displaying over 100 quilts, and their holiday boutique will be well stocked with gifts for just about anyone on your Christmas list. Many of the members will be at the show to greet attendees and answer questions about quilting and fabric art. This is their largest fund raiser of the year. Marg Frisque is the show chair and Karen Blumel is the VP of Orchard Valley Quilters Guild. 

 

The Central Okanagan Heritage Society  (COHS) is now the owners of the historical Bennett House. The non-profit society is dedicated to preparing the property for public access aiming for a Spring, 2025 opening. To support these efforts, COHS will continue in fundraising activities, including the upcoming 鈥淗its for Heritage鈥 with Andrew Johns at the Creekside Theatre on November 7th at 7:00 p.m. They are looking for silent auction donations or just come and enjoy the show.
