It may have been cold鈥搃t may have been damp, but that didn鈥檛 stop these hearty souls from participating in the BC Championship competition last weekend at SilverStar Mountain Resort near Vernon.

Under the theme, , this year鈥檚 group of contestants were asked to create their Wonderland fantasy using only water and snow.

The competition draws snow carving teams from around the world, and each team is given two days and two nights to complete their works of art.

Teams began at 10 a.m. Friday morning, starting with enormous blocks of snow that have been cured during the week. Spectators watched the huge snow carvings come to life Friday and Saturday, with final judging taking place on Sunday morning.

First place goes to team Snow FX for their creation Bot and Paid鈥.FOUR by David Durault, Bruce Waugh and Roger Chaisson of North Vancouver, Langley and Nanaimo. Their entry was accompanied by the following:

鈥淲onders of the Whirled

Outcase from the media.

Master of the Oh cult

Will that be.

Un, Trump, or the two?鈥

Second place is awarded to The Three Amigos for My Cup Runneth Over by Alex Avelino, Serjio Santos and Brenardo Andrade e Castro - all from Nelson.

鈥淭he Cup that holds, a love so true, the cup that we share, me and you.鈥

Another Nelson team, Chaos, Eh? took third place for Drink Me - by Stevennina Drassinourer, Carter Balzer and Matt Holman.

鈥淥ur sculpture depicts a classic scene from the story of Alice in Wonderland. On a table, appears cake and a drink labelled 鈥淓at Me鈥 and 鈥淒rink Me.鈥 Alice does, and begins to shrink to 10鈥 tall, and grows until she fills the entire room. A very late rabbit looks on from around a corner.鈥

Clinton Fitzpatrick carves out the teeth of the Cheshire Cat (to go with the Vernon Winter Carnival Wonderland theme) at the Snow Sculpture Competition last weekend at SilverStar Mountain Resort. While it was Fitzpatrick鈥檚 team鈥檚 first time competing in the provincial event, others have been carving out a name for themselves for the last five years - check out a video of a couple of competitors online at vernonmorningstar.com, where the results are also posted.
