Cat found on Coquihalla actually family pet who went missing in June

Eve is on her way home to Ontario

The cat rescued by the Okanagan Humane Society from the Coquihalla Lakes rest stop on Oct. 9,  will surely have a story to tell once she is reunited with her family.

The one-eyed feline, named Spooky by the rescue, had a microchip and had been previously spayed. But despite repeated attempts to contact the phone number linked to her microchip with no success, Okanagan Humane Society finally had a breakthrough and managed to get in touch with the cat鈥檚 original family.

Spooky is actually named Eve. She is an eight-year-old beloved pet who unfortunately escaped from her owners鈥 car during a cross-country move to Ontario while stopped at the Coquihalla Lakes rest area in June of this summer.

According to OHS, her owners stayed overnight at the rest stop searching desperately for her with no luck.

鈥淭hey had given up hope until we got in contact last week with the incredible news that she had not only been found alive, but was safely rescued, and ready to go home,鈥 said OHS.

Eve was quickly arranged to be flown out to Ontario and reunited with her family, who were all beside themselves with joy.

鈥淜nowing that she had been previously spayed, microchipped, and had undergone a major surgery to remove her eye, we expected that she may have a family missing her somewhere, but we never could have anticipated such a miraculous outcome,鈥 said OHS president Romany Runalls.

OHS is using Eve鈥檚 story as a reminder to pet owners to microchip their pets, as well as keep microchip information up to date, in case of unexpected circumstances.
