Set the holiday table this year with a donation that would impact those most vulnerable in the community.
The Central Okanagan Food Bank (COFB) is launching its 28th annual Set the Holiday Table matching campaign for the season. The campaign runs for the month of December and matches all donations up to a total of $125,000 until Dec. 31.
According to COFB, this year鈥檚 matching donor wishes to remain anonymous and let the impact of their kindness do the talking.
鈥淪et the Holiday has two goals- first, to lessen the stigma around those who use the food bank and second, to raise critical funds that allow COFB to continue meeting demand,鈥 stated COFB.
During the Set the Holiday campaign, COFB will be sharing client stories to raise awareness of the many unique pathways that lead to an individual or family needing support.
鈥淔rom being scammed to facing the difficult housing and job market in the Okanagan to sudden onset health problems, these stories encompass many challenges and walks of life,鈥 said COFB.
According to COFB, there has been a 43 per cent increase in the last 12 months of two-parent working households, their fastest growing demographic using its services with the food bank seeing 4,430 new clients so far this year.
With the Canada Post strike preventing people from mailing their donations, fundraising is proving to be more difficult than anticipated so far this holiday season for COFB. The food bank asks that people donate online or over the phone.
This month the food bank is serving almost 12,000 individuals and COFB doesn鈥檛 see that number declining any time soon.
