With big plans for his Sicamous-based company, Kyber Snowmobile Accessories, owner Ely Walsh is looking for a fitting space to accommodate his vision.
What started as a hobby developing and making sled parts during the initial COVID-19 lockdown in early 2020 has since snowballed, and is now garnering international attention that Walsh is looking to capitalize on. To do so, he is looking for an appropriate property with C-2 Highway Commercial zoning, and attended the district鈥檚 planning and development committee meeting Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, for support in finding that.
鈥淚鈥檝e been working quite hard over the past three years to develop this brand, and it鈥檚 become quite big and well known worldwide now,鈥 Walsh told the committee, adding there鈥檚 already a dealership in Japan that sells his products. 鈥淚 have currently over 30 dealerships in Western Canada, and we鈥檙e looking to expand into the U.S., which means that we would also need a large warehouse to facilitate our product.鈥
The Kyber line of customized sled parts and hardware has grown to include apparel and outerwear, with plans to add side-by-side and quad parts as well.
As the company grows, however, Walsh鈥檚 focus remains on the integrity of the Kyber line, and continuing to produce high-end products that have gotten him this far.
鈥淚t鈥檚 just creating the best stuff, that鈥檚 what we strive to do,鈥 he said. 鈥淢ake awesome products and let them speak for themselves.鈥
Currently operating as an online business, Walsh would like to establish a storefront with a lodge that could accommodate year-round machine rentals and tours, starting with sleds but eventually adding other seasonal toys, all outfitted with Kyber accessories.
鈥淭here鈥檚 so much opportunity,鈥 he said of being in a four-season destination that accommodates all kinds of outdoor recreation. 鈥淎nd to have that here in Sicamous would put it on the map globally.鈥
The planning committee was supportive of Walsh鈥檚 business vision and keeping it in Sicamous, though that is dependent on finding a property.
鈥淭his sounds exciting to me,鈥 committee member John Braun said. 鈥淚 think you鈥檙e shooting for a good goal here and I would really like to see it here.鈥
