The Enderby and District Fire Department is giving a heartfelt farewell to fire chief Cliff Vetter, who is retiring Nov. 1 after an "extraordinary" 30 years of service.

The fire department took to Facebook Tuesday to congratulate Vetter, announcing his retirement as the end of an era at the department.

"From answering the call for volunteers to rising through the ranks and eventually becoming fire chief in 2017, chief Vetter has been a cornerstone of our department's journey," the fire department said.

Vetter told The Morning Star that he'll still be keeping his day job with the City of Enderby utilities department, but is "looking forward to slowing down and enjoying time with my grandchildren" after retiring as fire chief.

He has memories from his time at the fire hall that he'll cherish forever 鈥 "the new people I've met, the people I've worked with, the scenes I've been on, being the chief, and all these different things I did for the fire hall."

The fire department said Vetter has exemplified passion and dedication while being "a beacon for us all."

"As he embarks on this new chapter of his life, chief Vetter leaves behind a legacy of unwavering dedication, selflessness, camaraderie, and steadfast service."

The fire department also expressed gratitude for Vetter's wife, Kelly, for supporting him throughout his career.

"Behind every firefighter is a strong support system, and Kelly has been an invaluable part of his journey," reads the Facebook post.

"Chief Vetter, your service has been nothing short of exceptional, and it has been an honour to serve alongside you. As you enjoy your well-earned retirement, know that your impact will continue to be felt within our department and the community at large. We wish you all the happiness and fulfillment in this new chapter."
