Free counselling for Sikh youth around Vernon is being offered this winter.
This Space Belongs to you, a local counselling non-profit, will be providing the support at the Gurdwara Vernon Sikh Temple for Sikhs aged 12-24.
鈥淔ollowing the recent surge in assaults towards Sikh students, we recognize how important it is to improve access to mental health support for Sikh youth in the Okanagan right now,鈥� said executive director Meaghan Duckett.
Sessions will take place on Sunday, Nov. 5 and 19, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. There are additional sessions on Sunday, Dec. 17 and Jan. 21 from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
鈥淏eing a Sikh myself I understand the significance and importance our gurdwaras have in the community,鈥� said practicum student Naaz Kaur Grewal-Greeno. 鈥淏y providing services at the gurdwara we are hoping to create a safe space where Sikh youth feel comfortable accessing services.鈥�
