91大黄鸭鈥檚 vegans, vegetarians gathered for first post-pandemic VegFest

The event was held at Westbank Lions Community Centre

VegFest was back after a several pandemic cancelled years, this time in West 91大黄鸭 at the Westbank Lions Community Centre.

With about 50 vendors, families were able to enjoy vegan and vegetarian foods, meet health and wellness vendors, listen to some live music, and catch a few speakers.

Organizer Pamela Murkin said there was a line-up out the door before the event even started at 10 a.m.

Murkin was collecting donations through the day. 鈥淧eople have been really generous and we鈥檙e raising lots of money for Star鈥檚 Piggly Wigglys Animal Sanctuary and EcoCooks.鈥

The goal is to raise a total of $10,000 for the two organizations, and Murkin said they should reach it.

The first VegFest was hosted in 2018 by Sarah Parsons. She said her favourite part is the community spirit. 鈥淩eally, really friendly nice people that are really supportive of local businesses.鈥

Although the festival had to be put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, both Murkin and Parsons said the event will return to annual.

VegFest ran until 4 p.m. It included face painting, a silent auction, and lots of smiles.
