Two Lake Country men have been recognized by the district for their volunteer service with community policing.
Kevin Bowles and Heinz Brand were presented with 30-year service awards at a council meeting on Oct. 3.
鈥淲hen I first signed up we did not have a detachment in, at that time, Winfield,鈥 Bowles said. 鈥淭he one police car that was available could have been in Westbank or down in Beaverdell which, you can imagine, would take them quite a while to respond to a call in our area. I and the crew just wanted to help the RCMP and be out there to report incidents before they become critical. I stay involved because more and more, as the community grows, the RCMP cannot be everywhere and I feel like we can help them a lot just by observations around town. When I work with them I realize that they are not just cops, they are human too and very much appreciate our support for them.鈥
A recruitment and info session for those interested in getting involved in community policing was held at the Save-On-Foods in Lake Country on Oct. 14. If someone missed the meeting and wants to learn more, call 250-707-8021.
