Okanagan Okie the marmot readying his senses for Groundhog Day

The Allan Brooks Nature Centre mascot will make his official prediction for spring on Sunday, Feb. 2.

While winter has been tame so far in the North Okanagan, the jury is still out on whether wintertime will continue longer than anticipated.

However, on Sunday, Feb. 2, Okie the Marmot, the mascot for the Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC), will make his official prediction about the arrival of spring. 

The fourth annual Groundhog Day celebration will be in person at the ABNC at 10 a.m., and will be live-streamed on their .

"Join us for family-friendly fun and the opportunity to learn about local wildlife in a fun and interactive way," said Stephanie Comer, fundraising and events coordinator.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate nature and connect with our community."

Admission is free, and Rebecca Barton from Beach Radio will be at the event, hoping to catch Okie's shadow.
