When you donate blood or plasma, you make all the difference for patients in 91´ó»ÆѼ and across the country. Every day, patients count on both blood and plasma donors who share these life essentials to help save the lives of others.

Like blood, plasma is an important part of daily medical care. Plasma is the protein-rich liquid part of blood in which your other blood components (e.g., red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets) circulate through your body. Donated plasma is used for transfusions or to make medications that thousands of patients in Canada depend on for quality of life—many of whom have no other treatment option.

At our plasma donor centre in 91´ó»ÆѼ, you can donate plasma to help make these lifesaving medications, which are used to treat patients with immunodeficiency, neurological disorders, and bleeding disorders, among other medical conditions. We also hold specialty mobile blood donation events in the community for rare blood donors and those who have type O-negative blood—which hospitals can use in emergencies because patients with any blood type can receive it.

So far in 2023, more than 330 blood donations and 9,500 plasma donations have been made in 91´ó»ÆѼ. Canadian Blood Services is sharing our heartfelt thanks to those who donate joy for patients and their families all year round.

Donors are needed every week – even during the holidays. In 91´ó»ÆѼ, more than 1,000 donation appointments between December 19 and January 7 still need to be filled to help ensure hospitals have the vital blood products patients need.

There are many ways to support Canada’s Lifeline. Become a blood or plasma donor, sign up to be a potential stem cell donor, register your intent to donate organs and tissues, make a financial gift, or volunteer your time.

To book the next available blood or plasma donation appointment, visit blood.ca, download the GiveBlood app, or call 1-888-2DONATE (1-888-236-6283). Same day appointments are often available.

It takes hundreds of thousands of blood and plasma donors each year to help save the lives of patients across Canada. When you are part of Canada’s Lifeline, giving a little means a lot.

Happy Holidays and best wishes for a healthy New Year from Canadian Blood Services!
