PHOTOS: Absolutely Gourd-geous: Halloween in Keremeos

Take in the displays, and learn some tips for trick or treating from the RCMP

It's the spooky season once again and Keremeos' fruit stands have gone all out with their displays.

There are more pumpkins than you can probably count - although that won't stop people from trying - scarecrows, mannequins and all other surprises.

The annual displays are always a highlight when driving through the community, as the stands give their usual competition a seasonal twist.

Before going out trick-or-treating, you might want to take a tour around the area and check out the displays.

On Halloween, here are some safety tips from the RCMP on how to enjoy the evening safely:

* Have children wear reflective markings or carry a flashlight so they can be seen.

* Make sure your children鈥檚 costumes are properly sized to avoid falls and tripping.

* Use non-toxic make-up on your child instead of a mask so their vision is not limited.

* Travel in groups and with an adult when you are trick or treating.

* Always check the candy before letting your child eat it. Avoid homemade treats or un-wrapped candy.

* Keep kids on a sidewalk or path and don鈥檛 let them dash across the street or to the next house.

* Always walk together and cross at a street corner or walk signal.
