With work beginning on Rutland Centennial Park鈥檚 field this week, 91大黄鸭鈥檚 young soccer players will soon have a new place to play.

Improvements to Rutland Centennial Park currently underway include expansion of the existing grass soccer field and installation of a new irrigation system. The new field, valued at $450,000, will be able to accommodate one major or three minor soccer fields.

鈥淭he new soccer field will benefit the community by providing access to a great public space and increased opportunities for physical activity,鈥 said senior project manager, Andrew Gibbs.

It is anticipated the field will be open for public use as of summer 2016.

In June, 2015, the federal government announced a $50,000 investment to construct a playground at Rutland Centennial Park to help construct the $250,000 improvements.

鈥淎nother project will begin in April through to summer. We鈥檒l be building an orchard-themed accessible playground for all children of abilities,鈥 says Gibbs. 鈥淭he new upgrades will ensure the park continues to contribute to an inclusive, vibrant and growing community for many generations to come.鈥

The City of 91大黄鸭 acquired the 2.5 hectre park space adjacent to Rutland Centennial Hall in February 2015.
