Susan's carport has been spooking Revelstoke for over a decade

Susan's Haunted Carport will be ready for visitors on October, 31.

Several years ago, Susan Kincaid decorated her carport in Revelstoke, and the joy of celebrating Halloween with her children has since grown to a community-wide event, known as Susan's Haunted Carport.

Kincaid said that about 10 years ago, she began expanding her carport.

"My daughter's boyfriend dressed up and hiding in the carport, and some kids came in and they thought he was just a mannequin and he scared them, and we went, oh we like this," said Kincaid.

Since then, Kincaid and her crew of volunteers: Stephanie Kincaid, James Kincaid, Bob Kincaid, Andrew Atchifon, Erin Filtness, Katie Van Huizen, and Mitchell Carachelo, have been busy adding on to the carport, and setting up additional tents that are sure to scare visitors.

"We actually now go all the way around the house and we've got car tents and all kinds of tents up in the yard so that it's, if it's raining or whatever, at least you're a little bit dry," said Kincaid.

Kincaid said that last year the haunted carport attracted over 600 hundred visitors.  As for a theme, Kincaid explained that each tent has a different theme. "There's walls inside the tents and then each tent have on or two themes to them...one could be a witch's room or a zombie room," said Kincaid.

Kincaid and her team of volunteers begin assembling the haunted houses in early October for the visitors who will have the opportunity to be spooked between 4 and 10 p.m., on Douglas Street, Oct. 31. For Kincaid, the motivation to create the haunted carport stems from her love of Halloween.

"Forget Christmas...I've always enjoyed Halloween and it's the scare factor and just everybody having a good time for me," said Kincaid.
