"Swifties" stepped up this summer in Penticton during a recent ticket raffle, in support of one of the community's largest fundraisers.
A local Taylor Swift ticket draw led to more than $82,000 raised for the Penticton Regional Hospital's new oncology clinic.
From June 22 to Sept. 16, people were invited to enter the fundraising raffle for a chance to see the pop superstar at Vancouver's BC Place on Dec. 8.
The raffle was organized by the Penticton Regional Hospital Auxiliary, which previously pledged to raise $400,000 for the oncology centre.
"Heartfelt thanks are extended to all those who purchased tickets, and whose generous support made this achievement possible," the auxiliary said in a press release.
The first-place winner, Diane Campbell, won two concert tickets to Swift's Vancouver show and $500 in cash.
Carol Bruce, the second-place raffle winner, took home $1,000.
The expanded oncology clinic — to be located on the third floor of the Penticton hospital — will feature 11 treatment bays, four ambulatory care treatment bays and four exam/consult rooms, according to Interior Health.
It is expected to open in July 2025.
Efforts to raise funds for the expanded oncology clinic kicked off in the fall of 2022, with the South Okanagan Similkameen Media Foundation hoping to raise $10 million for the cause.
