The community is rallying for Palestinians with a vigil in Vernon this Sunday, Jan. 21.
The rally is being put on by the Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East (CJPME) - Okanagan Chapter, which is an organization of people of all backgrounds who labour for justice and peace in the Middle East.
鈥淲e will be hosting a vigil and rally to acknowledge that we have now surpassed 100 days of irrevocable childhood trauma caused by indiscriminate bombing, a continued complete blockade and mass forced displacement of over half of the entire population of Gaza,鈥 CJPME said. 鈥淲e will be dedicating this time especially to the 10,000 plus children of Palestine who have been unnecessarily killed.鈥
The event will begin at 3 p.m. with a vigil at the Polson Park bandshell. The rally that will follow is an opportunity to walk together and to raise voices in a call for a ceasefire, the protection of civilians in Gaza and an end to the occupation.
Attendees are encouraged to bring respectful signs, flags and kuffiyehs.
Battery operated candles, glowsticks or cellphone flashlights are encouraged as open flames are not permitted.
