B.C. ELECTION: Higginson takes Ladysmith-Oceanside for B.C. NDP

Early unofficial results for the 2024 B.C. general election show B.C. NDP candidate Stephanie Higginson will be MLA for the new Ladysmith-Oceanside riding.

With 18 of 19 final voting day ballot boxes and six of six advance ballot boxes counted, Higginson held a comfortable lead over Brett Fee of the Conservative Party of B.C. and Independent candidate Adam Walker.

Higginson had 13,332 votes (41.2 per cent), with Fee second at 11,555 (35.71 per cent), Walker third at 5,323 (16.45 per cent) and Laura Ferreira of the B.C. Green Party fourth at 2,151 (6.65 per cent).

Higginson, a Cedar resident, was elected to the Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools board of education in 2014 and 2018, and is also a past-president of the B.C. School Trustees' Association.
