The 48-Hour Film Project returns to the Okanagan in September.

The challenge for participants is to create a short film in just 48 hours. The 48-Hour Film Project is a global competition held in over 100 cities worldwide. The Okanagan event is the only one in Western Canada.

鈥淭his competition is a fantastic opportunity for filmmakers at all levels from professionals to amateurs and enthusiasts,鈥 said Harrison Coe, event co-producer.

The event starts rolling on Friday, Sept. 6 at 5:30 p.m. at  Silverstar Brewing Company (2933A 30th Ave.) in Vernon.

Teams will select their film genre and required elements from a hat and have the weekend to write, shoot, direct, and edit their films.

Submissions are due by 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Films must use a specific prop, character, and line of dialogue which will all be provided on Friday.

A panel of industry professionals will judge the films based on artistic and technical merit, and adherence to the assignment.

Films will be premiered in mid-October with a date and location to be announced.

The winning film will advance to Filmapalooza, the 48 Hour Film Project鈥檚 International Film Festival, in Seattle next year.

Teams selected from that event will have the chance to move on to the Cannes Film Festival Short Film Corner.

鈥淚t鈥檚 incredibly exciting to think someone could journey from the Okanagan to Seattle to Cannes,鈥 Coe. said.
