The Kif-Kif Sisters present The Returns Department at the Vernon Performing Arts Centre Sept. 29.

The arts aren't just for adults.

The Vernon and District Performing Arts Centre Society is focusing on children, showcasing top-notch theatre for young audiences.

"As we unveil the 2024-25 Spotlight Kids Series, we invite families to share in the magic of theatre, creating lasting memories together," said Erin Kennedy, artistic director.

The Kif-Kif Sisters open the series Sept. 29 with The Returns Department 鈥 a funny combination of physical theatre, circus and puppetry. Inspecting returned merchandise passing on a conveyor belt, the twins give in to the temptation to play with the faulty items 鈥 as the objects themselves play some tricks of their own.

Alex Zerbe鈥檚 Zaniac Comedy Show returns Oct.19 as Zerbe juggles bowling balls, giant knives, and slices vegetables in half with a flying playing card. Beatboxing, juggling, dancing, singing, music and magic are just a few of the things that led Piers Morgan of America鈥檚 Got Talent to call Alex, "the total package." Zerbe is an audience favourite, last appearing locally in 2019.

The ever-popular Dufflebag Theatre, where the narrator makes the audience part of the story and the stars of the show, returns March 1 with The Three Musketeers. Join D鈥橝rtagnan, a spirited youth from the French countryside, as he pursues his dream of becoming a Musketeer. In this lively, interactive adaptation of Alexandre Dumas鈥 classic tale, his journey is fraught with challenges.

The Kid Series finale comes all the way from Australia, The Alphabet of Awesome Science on April 16. Professors Lexi Con, The Word Nerd and Noel Edge, The Science Freak, bring a thrilling voyage through the alphabet 鈥 where sesquipedalian words inspire mind-blowing scientific surprises! It鈥檚 a tongue-twisting race from A to Z that鈥檚 equal parts explosive, messy, hilarious, fascinating and gross! Brace yourself for an hour of carefully crafted alphabetical, 鈥渟cientifical鈥 (and award-winning) chaos 鈥 that floats, flies, squirts, sprays, ignites and erupts!

鈥淥ur Spotlight Season鈥檚 Kid Series performances are always a whole lot of fun,鈥 says VDPAC鈥檚 executive director Jim Harding. 鈥淭his is a great way to introduce youngsters to the magic of live performance 鈥 and to experience it all together as a family!鈥

Tickets are available at 250-549-SHOW (7469) and .
