A driver shortage has forced the cancellation of the Penticton Speedway's annual Halloween event, track officials announced.

For the second time in three years, the speedway's "Spooktacular" event won't proceed.

"Unfortunately, due to a shortage of hit-to-pass competitors, as they've had a jam-packed year of destruction and chaos, we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year鈥檚 Speedway Spooktacular," the track said in a statement on its website.

The event, among other planned Halloween activities, was set to feature a hit-to-pass championship race. It marks the end of racing season in Penticton every year.

In a social media post, the speedway added that it looks forward to releasing its schedule for 2025.

"We want to shout out our amazing fans, drivers, crews, and families who鈥檝e made this season unforgettable," it reads.

"Thank you for all your support, and see you next season!"

For reasons unknown, the track cancelled its Halloween event in October 2022

However, the event proceeded last fall to close out the speedway's 2023 season.
