Yo-ho-ho-and a bottle of rum comes to Salmon Arm with Shuswap Theatre鈥檚 upcoming presentation of the classic pirate adventure Treasure Island.

Audience members will embark on a thrilling escapade with young Jim Hawkins to find buried treasure while navigating the high seas, battling dangerous adversaries and, most challenging of all, outwitting the infamous Long John Silver who is just as determined to snare the pirate鈥檚 booty.

Based on Robert Louis Stevenson鈥檚 beloved novel, this seafaring adventure has been adapted for the stage by Ken Ludwig and brought to life by director Julia Body. A longtime fan of Ludwig鈥檚 plays, of which she has already directed three for the Shuswap Theatre stage, Body was happy to dive into Treasure Island.

鈥淚 have always loved the madcap physicality of Ludwig鈥檚 plays,鈥� said Body. 鈥淚 love the action and the excitement and the complete commitment they require from the actors.鈥�

That action, however, isn鈥檛 confined just to the stage, with the audience also getting to experience sword fights, gun battles and other heart-stopping excitement, so parents should bear that in mind when bringing children under 10.

There is plenty of opportunity to find your sea legs and join this thrilling adventure as Treasure Island will run from Thursday, Nov. 2 to Sunday, Nov. 19.
