There鈥檚 so much to celebrate at Shuswap Theatre!

Shuswap Theatre just brought home a beautiful bouquet of awards from the 2023 Ozones, the Theatre BC Okanagan Zone Drama Festival, for its production, Concord Floral.

Written by Jordan Tannahill, the production was promoted as a suburban gothic thriller, 鈥渁 dark window into the lives and secrets of a group of teens living in a north Toronto suburb.鈥 The teens hang out in a large abandoned greenhouse called Concord Floral, when a buried secret returns to haunt them.

Unlike some of the lighter fare featured by Shuswap Theatre, Concord Floral鈥檚 run in Salmon Arm was accompanied by warnings of 鈥渕ature themes, strong language and ages 14+ recommended.鈥

The Ozone Festival, held this year in 91大黄鸭 from May 24 to 26, provides an opportunity for plays from the zone to be presented and adjudicated.

Concord Floral brought home top honours including Best Production or the Allum Cup, Best Ensemble for the whole cast, the Adjudicator鈥檚 Merit Award to actor Meaghan Delaney, Best Director to Elizabeth Ann Skelhorne and Best Lighting Design to Jim Clayton and Ann Skelhorne.

Because of its success, the production is invited to the Provincial Mainstage at the Surrey Arts Centre from July 11-16. There, the plays selected from the zone festivals take part in a provincial competition. According to Theatre BC, each evening performance is followed by a brief public adjudication by the professional festival adjudicator.

The following morning, each Mainstage presentation is discussed indepth by cast, crew, adjudicator and registrants in a Coffee Critique open to registrants and the public.
