On Nov.2 the glitz and glam of old Hollywood will shine at Sun Peaks Resort, near Kamloops. 

Take in a tribute to the classic era of cinema during the Bluebird Day Fund's 17th annual charity event.

The Fall Ball is held in memory of Bryn Taylor, a brother and friend to many, who died almost 20 years ago. 

Following Taylor鈥檚 death, the Bluebird Day Fund was created with the mission of supporting local youth in the Kamloops and Sun Peaks. 

Since its inception, the fund has helped to support more than 250 young athletes through fostering mentorship, development and community involvement.

When the fund first started back in 2007, local athletes were helped through a reimbursement program, that would give them opportunities such as attending the Whistler Glacier Camp Program, for athletic and personal growth.

From there the fund would grow to host the first-ever Fall Ball in 2008, a gathering that is widely supported by the resort community. 

This charity event would raise funds to help kids refine their skiing and snowboarding skills in the Park Sessions Program at Sun Peaks.

According to  Bryan Lupal, a board member of the Bluebird Day Fund, the Park Sessions Program, which began in 2011, has been a remarkable success, producing young athletes who have developed the skills to compete and excel.

鈥淭his initiative was designed not only to develop their skills but to prepare them for future competitions,鈥� he said. 

The fund has also partnered with Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Kamloops for the creation of a sports mentorship program. 

鈥淓very two weeks starting in January, we offer transportation, lift tickets, gear, and mentors to take children out for a day of fun on the ski hill. These outings give kids an opportunity to try something new, build confidence, and simply enjoy being outdoors during the winter months,鈥� explained Lupal. 

This support for young athletes is set to continue with the Fall Ball on Nov. 2, at the Sun Peaks Centre from 5 to 10:30 p.m.

Prepare to dance the night away, snack on delicious food and be awarded for best dressed, all for a good cause. 

As the big night draws to a close it will be announced that the fund is evolving into a bursary program. 

鈥淎fter two more years of regular operations, we will be establishing the Bryn Taylor Bursary. This bursary will be available to students graduating from Sun Peaks School who are continuing their education at the post-secondary level,鈥� said Lupal. 

The goal is to raise an additional $25,000 over the next two years, bringing the total funds to $100,000. 

鈥淲hile our focus is shifting to educational support, our commitment to the community and Bryn鈥檚 legacy remains as strong as ever,鈥� noted Lupal.
