Vernon's Powerhouse Theatre has chosen its first production for 2025.
The Powerhouse invites fans to experience , a captivating play that re-imagines Shakespeare’s Hamlet with a modern twist.
In this witty and heartfelt production, a contemporary playwright and feminist finds herself mysteriously transported into the world of Hamlet to help Ophelia rewrite her story.
Ophelia Chooses is a tale of empowerment, where Ophelia becomes the architect of her own fate, challenging those who seek to control her – whether from Shakespeare’s era or her own.
The play is directed by Joan Sasges.
Whether you're a Shakespeare enthusiast or new to the Bard, Ophelia Chooses will entertain and inspire.
The play runs Wednesday, Feb. 19, to Saturday, Feb. 22, and again Wednesday, Feb. 26, to Saturday, March 1, with the curtain going up at 7:30 p.m. each night.
There will be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Feb. 23.
The production is seeking talented musicians to join the cast.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to collaborate on live music that will elevate the emotional power of the play and enhance its medieval-inspired aesthetic," said the Powerhouse.
"We are particularly looking for someone who can complement our violin/fiddle player, focusing on rhythm playing but also stepping into the lead for specific moments in the show. A familiarity or interest in medieval-style music is a definite plus. The music will be performed live each night, supporting set transitions and enriching key emotional beats on stage."
The commitment includes rehearsals throughout February, and the show dates.
