It will be a celebration of music and friendship bracelets as the Summerland Library is hosting a Taylor Swift Dance Party to coincide with her Vancouver tour dates.

The Vancouver concerts, on Dec. 6 to 8, are the final shows in The Eras Tour. The concerts are almost sold out, and the few remaining tickets are expensive. Seats with limited or obstructed views are more than $1,200 each, while seats providing a better view can approach $10,000.

Caroline McKay, community librarian at the Summerland branch of the Okanagan Regional Library, said the Vancouver dates were the last chance for fans to hear the iconic performer, but the limited seating and high prices made it difficult if not impossible to attend the live shows.

鈥淚 still wanted to celebrate that she had such an amazing tour,鈥� McKay said. 鈥淲hy not do it here?鈥�

The event in Summerland will not copy the 3.5-hour live show, but it will provide a special experience for young fans. 

鈥淲e are going to have a wonderful feel-good evening,鈥� McKay said.

The evening will feature Swift鈥檚 music. There will be a disco ball, a light show, a photo booth and opportunities to make friendship bracelets, a trend popularized by Swift. Those attending are encouraged to wear outfits inspired by the singer-songwriter.

While Swift鈥檚 fans 鈥� known as Swifties 鈥� represent a diverse group, the event at the library in Summerland is for those between the ages of eight and 12.

McKay added that some adults have suggested the library should host a similar event, but for an adult audience.

The event is free, but limited to 50 people and chaperones. Tickets are required and must be picked up in advance by a parent or guardian.
