An organization representing hundreds of stakeholders in the Central Okanagan construction industry wants 91大黄鸭 council to reconsider changes to its good neighbour bylaw.
Construction noise is allowed between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. seven days a week, including statutory holidays.
City staff have recommended that it be changed to 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends and no construction noise on stats.
A June 6 letter from the Canadian Home Builders鈥 Association Central Okanagan (CHBA-CO) to the city pointed out that construction projects have tight deadlines, and delays could impact completion dates and increase costs.
鈥淲e share the stance of the Urban Development Institute (UDI), that a delayed start on weekends and an outright ban on statutory holidays will have an adverse effect on new construction projects in terms of larger costs and longer timelines,鈥 the letter stated.
It also questioned enforcement challenges and monitoring renovation projects typically done by homeowners on weekends.
鈥淎re homeowners allowed to run a saw in their backyard on the May-long weekend? Will they be fined for installing flooring at 4:30 p.m. on a Saturday?鈥
The CHBA-CO and UDI proposed restricting construction from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and stat holidays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
Council will deal with the staff recommended amendments at a future meeting.
