Abbotsford Canucks prospect and former Yale Hockey Academy player Sawyer Mynio has been chosen to wear the red and white at the upcoming IIHF World Junior Championship.
The tournament occurs in Ottawa and runs from Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Mynio is one of eight defenceman who were named to the team along with three goalies and 14 forwards on Friday (Dec. 13).

He has gone on to play for Seattle beginning with the 2021-22 season and is now a co-captain of the team this season. He caught the attention of scouts with a 2022-23 season that saw him collect 31 points and was picked by the Vancouver Canucks in round three, 89th overall in the 2023 NHL Draft.

He signed a three-year, entry level deal that September and Mynio made his AHL debut for the Abbotsford Canucks on April 11, 2024 in a game against the Calgary Wranglers.
He's off to an excellent start with Seattle this season and has scored 19 points in 18 games. It's likely that Mynio will re-join Abbotsford once Seattle's season is over. The Thunderbirds currently rank 10th and are outside of the playoff picture in the WHL's Western Conference.

Mynio is one of two B.C. products on the team, as McBride's Tanner Molendyk was also named to the team. Canada is looking to improve on a fifth place finish in 2024. They did win gold in 2023 and 2022.
Canada opens against Finland on Dec. 26, plays Latvia on Dec. 27, battles Germany on Dec. 29 and closes out the preliminary round against the United States on Dec. 31.
