Emmy-nominated documentary filmmaker Jeff Chiba Stearns will attend a screening of his award-winning documentary, Mixed Match at UBC Okanagan on February 8.
The documentary explores the struggles of mixed-race blood cancer patients forced to reflect on their multi-cultural identity as they search for matching bone marrow donors that fit their unique genetic makeup.
“A²õ a filmmaker of multi-ethnic descent, this documentary is very personal and my connection to the subject matter is of extreme ²õ¾±²µ²Ô¾±´Ú¾±³¦²¹²Ô³¦±ð,†says Chiba Stearns. â€Àá hope to help patients and their families express their own unique stories and explore identity through the medical challenges faced by being mixed °ù²¹³¦±ð.â€
Chiba Stearns was born in 91´ó»ÆѼ and earned a Bachelor of Media Arts from Emily Carr Institute and a Bachelor of Education from UBC.
He will be available for a question and answer period after the screening.
