91大黄鸭 RCMP's Community Safety Unit (CSU) conducted another successful Project Barcode from Dec. 2-7.

During the operation, CSU officers and Loss Prevention Officers (LPOs) worked together to target shoplifters in town. According to RCMP, shoplifting is one of the most widespread crime types and is consistently one of the main drivers to 91大黄鸭's Crime Severity Index (CSI).

Over the course of the six days, officers arrested 47 people, with 12 of them having outstanding warrants. Many of them had to be held in custody and appear in court. Seven of the suspects had little to no criminal history and were referred to restorative justice. Their participation is required to steer clear of the charges.

Officers also found a fake firearm on one suspect and impounded two vehicles due to Motor Vehicle Act related offences.

鈥淭here is a substantial amount of documentation and evidence collection still required, however we anticipate a high number of these reports will be submitted for charge assessment at a later date,鈥� RCMP CSU officer Sgt. Scott Powrie. 鈥淔or the time being, most suspects have been released on Undertakings which include a court date and conditions not to attend the business from which they are alleged to have stolen from.鈥�

鈥淲e strategically wanted to align this project with the busy shopping season to remind these individuals they are not immune from detection even during peak times and that they will get caught. Our ultimate goal is not only to catch shoplifters, we want employees to feel safe at work and supported by the police,鈥� added Powrie.
