BC Housing proposes apartment building for 91大黄鸭鈥檚 Bertram Street

Development includes market rental apartments, a daycare, and housing for people with disabilities

BC Housing is proposing to build a 20-storey apartment building in downtown 91大黄鸭.

鈥淭he focus is to create urgently needed non-market and market rental housing for seniors, couples, individuals and families. No supportive housing will be built on the site,鈥 according to documentation on the BC Housing website.

The building is proposed for 1451 Bertram Street, north of Bernard Avenue.

City council approved a redevelopment plan for the property in Oct. 2021 which includes 14 rental townhomes, 162 non-market and market rental apartments, daycare and play areas, and housing for people with disabilities.

It includes 17 storeys of living units and a three-storey parkade.

The plan was resubmitted to the city Nov. 6.

BC Housing is also asking council to extend the timeline of permit approvals previously granted, which would give the organization two additional years to begin construction.

It is estimated that a building permit could be approved in 2024 and that construction could begin in mid-2025.

More information about the project can be found on the .
