Pearson Elementary School is creating a new way to grow a community garden.

Each classroom will be receiving a wagon which will hold their own garden.

Students will be involved in planting the seeds and maintaining the garden said Rich Chapman, facilities coordinator for 91大黄鸭 Family Hub.

The idea is better than a community garden because it is difficult for a school to maintain, he said.

鈥淲e sort of came up with this idea of using planters for each classroom and sort of putting them on wheels so that the kids can wheel them in and out,鈥� he said adding the planters wouldn鈥檛 be tied to an irrigation system.

The planters may have a world theme, where different classrooms focus on different multicultural plants.

The project costs around $1,500, said Chapman.

So far, the fertilizer, seeds and plants have already been donated.

The wagons will be built by the Okanagan Men鈥檚 Shed.

The planting is set to occur around spring break in March, said Chapman.

鈥淓very teacher wants one for their classroom,鈥� he said.

Lights are also being provided by the school district.

The students are still in need of lumber and storage containers for the plants.

This will be the first wagon garden project in the school district.

鈥淚f this model can work better than the current model, then we鈥檇 love to share it with other schools,鈥� he said.
