After a harrowing several hours, a West 91大黄鸭 woman was reunited with her pet that was taken after her vehicle was allegedly stolen from outside a store.
Tuesday afternoon, a woman named Jill said she had her vehicle stolen outside of London Drugs in West 91大黄鸭, and while shocked and annoyed, the real concern was that her dog Gary had been inside at the time.
Several hours later the vehicle was later recovered in a vineyard off Boucherie Road but Gary was not inside, sparking widespread concern and a determined search.
The breakthrough came when a compassionate community member spotted Gary running in the cold and reached out to the Okanagan Humane Society for help. Dedicated OHS dog rescue volunteer Shannon Galliivan jumped into action.
鈥淚 arrived on site at 9 p.m. to look for Gary and Jill the owner was there by 10:55 p.m.,鈥 said Galliivan.
Despite being scared and disoriented, Gary recognized Jill鈥檚 voice the moment she arrived on the scene and ran straight into her arms.
"It was an emotional moment," said Galliivan. "Gary was nervous, but the connection he and Jill share was undeniable. Watching them reunite was truly special."
Jill was overwhelmed by the community support that came together to find Gary.
"The kindness of strangers and the power of community brought Gary home. I鈥檓 incredibly thankful to Shannon, the OHS, and the citizen who reported Gary when they saw him."
Gary is now safe at home, recovering from his ordeal.
