Freedom鈥檚 Door is an addictions recovery home in 91大黄鸭 which has provided long-term, abstinence-based recovery programs for more than 21 years.

Tom Smithwick, a program society director, says due to a long waiting list of those seeking help, Freedom's Door has pursued expansion plans to help reduce homelessness, poverty and addiction issues in 91大黄鸭.

"We currently assist 99 people who struggle with addiction and or mental health issues," said Smithwick. "Over the past two decades, we have proved that healing from addictions is possible. We help men to return to a life of sobriety, a return to work and a reunion with family and friends.

We greatly appreciate the assistance of donors who allow this successful work to continue in our community.鈥

On June 18, city council gave unanimous approval a a development permit application to build four townhomes in the rear yard of Freedom's Door's existing facilities on Belaire Avenue, the first phase of a long-term project to construct 12 townhomes.

"It is our desire to immediately commence construction to achieve 16 new bedrooms for men who have completed the first 90-Day Program and who are now in our Next Steps Life Skills Program. This is transitional housing," explained Smithwick, noting Freedom's Door generally has a waiting list of 20 to 40 people seeking entry.

Having embarked on a fundraising effort to pay for this new, affordable housing, the Rotary Club of 91大黄鸭 has already agreed to provide a $50,000 donation to the campaign.

The 91大黄鸭 Rotary Club held its annual Pro-Am Golf Tournament in April and chose the Freedom鈥檚 Door Belaire Town Homes Project as the major tournament donation benefactor. Traine Construction and Development was the tournament title sponsor supported by many other donor/sponsors.
