UPDATE: 11:57 a.m.
A resident on the second floor of Central Green told Capital News that he was writing a final exam when he got a call that his apartment was on fire.
The man said he rushed home as he had a cat inside his unit.
According to the resident, smoke was coming from inside his unit which alerted his neighbours.
The man managed to rescue his cat before fire crews arrived.
It’s believed something may have been left on the stove, which sparked the blaze.
It’s unclear how much damage the fire caused, but crews are ventilating the building.
Residents were allowed back inside after being evacuated for about 30 minutes.
Residents of 1770 Richter were evacuated from the building Friday morning, following reports of an apartment fire.
While there was nothing visible when fire crews arrived, it appears the incident was contained in a single unit.
Five fire trucks responded to Central Green just before 11:30 a.m.
The building is being ventilated by fire crews.
More to come.
