It doesn鈥檛 look like the City of 91大黄鸭 will be moving to Stage 2 water restrictions any time soon.

A staff report going to council Monday (July 22) recommends that Stage 1 remain in place to 鈥渁void waste and preserve the water supply stability that has been re-established.鈥

Stage 1 doesn鈥檛 impose additional restrictions beyond normal. They are meant to raise awareness of drought conditions and prepare for the possibility of further restrictions. Since those restrictions were implemented on April 22, water supply conditions have improved considerably.

鈥淭his spring鈥檚 cooler growing conditions, timely rain events and challenging crop conditions have led to a reduced demand and increased reservoir levels,鈥 the report states.

It also notes that McCulloch Reservoir reached full pool on June 5.

鈥淪taff generally consider a full reservoir provides the needed irrigation water for the rest of the irrigation season regardless of how hot or dry the rest of summer turns out.鈥

The report points out proactive management by the province allowed Okanagan Lake to reach a peak level of 0.20 metres below full pool.

鈥淲hile there are no drought declarations on the lake as of this date, the province remains concerned over its commitments on the Okanagan River downstream as precipitation levels remain below normal and the summer heat ramps up,鈥 the report says.
