The 91大黄鸭 Community Dialysis Unit (KCDU) is expanding to better meet the needs of the growing population in the Central Okanagan.

KCDU opens in a new location (102-1835 Gordon Drive) on Monday, Aug. 26.

"The expansion of the 91大黄鸭 Community Dialysis Unit will significantly enhance dialysis care in the Central Okanagan,鈥 B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix said in a media release. 鈥淏y increasing service capacity, we are addressing the growing demand for dialysis treatment in the community. 

The unit is increasing from eight to 11 chairs in the new space, which also has the potential for up to 14 chairs depending on demand. 

The expansion means up to 8,736 dialysis treatments will be provided annually in the Central Okanagan.

鈥淭his investment not only improves patient outcomes, but also supports the broader health-care system by providing timely and efficient health care,鈥 said Susan Brown, president and CEO, Interior Health. 
 
The KCDU will serve patients Monday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The relocation and renovations cost $4.39 million and are being funded by .

The KGH Foundation contributed $90,000 to provide the new space with local artwork, additional furniture, emotional support pet beds, and other needed equipment.
