West 91大黄鸭 City Hall, which opened in May, is set to undergo further upgrades.
The building, originally budgeted at $18 million, came in significantly over budget at $22.79 million. Construction delays stretched the timeline for months, and the city was named in a civil lawsuit related to the project in November 2023.
The city is planning to spend $115,000 on acoustic improvements for council chambers and $85,000 to design parking lot upgrades and expansion. This week, staff will ask council for . Both projects will be funded through the city鈥檚 capital reserves. In addition to these upgrades, another $227,920 has been requested to replace council chambers' equipment under the Information Services budget.
Other requests include:
- $700,000 to replace the roofs on Fire Halls #33 and #34;
- $18,000 to replace a furnace and $290,000 for locker upgrades at Johnson Bentley Memorial Aquatic Centre;
- $700,000 for a roof replacement and $600,000 for a condenser at Jim Lind Arena.
All funding for these projects would come from city reserves.
Council will review the , which includes a proposed 8.3 per cent property tax increase, during meetings on December 18-19.
