Peachland鈥檚 mayor says harassment, and intimidation, of district council members must stop immediately.
The behaviour has also included reports of vandalism of members' personal property, Mayor Patrick Van Minsel wrote in a post on the district鈥檚 Facebook page.
鈥淭his behaviour is not only deeply troubling but also contrary to the core values that define our community,鈥 Van Minsel stated. 鈥淚t undermines the trust and respect that are essential to our collective progress and well-being.鈥
Law enforcement will be engaged to protect the safety and dignity of councillors should the alleged actions continue.
鈥淓very council member is dedicated to serving our community and representing the diverse needs and aspirations of Peachland,鈥 he said. 鈥淭heir commitment involves countless hours of hard work, often at the expense of personal time and comfort.鈥
The mayor noted that while decisions made by council may sometimes spark disagreement or frustration, councillors deserve respect for their dedication and efforts. Van Minsel urged any resident with concerns or disagreements with a councillor to contact him.
鈥淢y door is open to constructive dialogue, and I am committed to addressing your concerns in a respectful and collaborative manner. Let us move forward with dignity, working together to create a stronger and more united Peachland.鈥
