The Regional District Central Okanagan (RDCO) will spend $32,110 to send directors to various conferences and conventions in 2025.

Included in the eight events throughout the year are major conventions such as the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) in Ottawa, and the Union of BC Municipalities (UBCM) in Victoria. Most events will be attended by one RDCO board director, except the FCM and UBCM, which will both be attended by two directors.

Central Okanagan West Director Wayne Carson questioned why one specific conference was split into two separate events.

鈥淭his has got to add a fair bit of expense to a lot of electoral areas, and smaller communities having the two different conferences both in Richmond. They were combined before in other years,鈥 he noted.

Staff told the board it had not been notified why the change had been made.

鈥淚t鈥檚 up to every board director if they choose to attend any of these as well, if that鈥檚 a concern,鈥 Board Chair Loyal Wooldridge said.

All registration fees, hotels and transportation for the conferences are estimates only as of Sept. 9, 2024.
