Taking a look back at 2024, the West K News is summarizing the top stories from each month that resonated with readers and drew attention from the community.

It was a busy start to the year for  Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) as volunteers were called out on New Year's Day to help with a person who collapsed while hiking on Goats Peak Trail.

Using UTVs and ground crews, COSAR and WKFD found the person and attempted to save them, however, the person later died at the scene.

The day didn鈥檛 stop there, as crews were leaving from Goats Peak Trail they were contacted by RCMP who needed assistance with a despondent person. However, this was safely concluded without the help of COSAR.

A few hours later as the sun went down, COSAR was called back out to West 91大黄鸭 to assist with finding a lost hiker who called 911.

The hiker was on McDougall Rim Trail, ran out of daylight, and became lost. COSAR deployed E-bike and ATV teams, with the ATV team quickly finding the hiker and bringing them back to the trailhead.
