UBC Okanagan hosting firefighter night: 91大黄鸭 sports weekend preview

The Rockets, Warriors, and Chiefs are all on the road

The start of February welcomes a big weekend for the 91大黄鸭 sports scene.

91大黄鸭 Rockets

The 91大黄鸭 Rockets (22-22-3-0, sixth in West) are looking to make it two wins in a row against the Portland Winterhawks (31-12-2-1, third in West) on Friday night.

Two nights earlier, the Rockets ended their three-game losing streak beating the Winterhawks 4-3 to kick off a three-game road trip. In the contest, Hiroki Gojsic鈥檚 10th goal of the season ended up being the difference while Jari Kykkanen made 31 saves in the win.

On Friday night, the two teams do it all again with puck drop at 7:05 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

After the game, the Rockets will travel up to finish up their road trip in Spokane (17-23-4-0, eighth in West) to take on the Chiefs on Sunday night. Puck drop is at 5:05 p.m. at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena.

West 91大黄鸭 Warriors

The West 91大黄鸭 Warriors are on Vancouver Island to take on a couple of powerhouse teams.

Going into the weekend, the Warriors are second in the BCHL鈥檚 Interior Conference with a record of 23-7-6-0. On Friday night, the team is taking on the Nanaimo Clippers, who sit third in the Coastal Conference (20-12-2-0).

The next night, West 91大黄鸭 will be in Alberni Valley to face off against the Bulldogs, who are 22-14-0-0, and second in the Coastal.

Nanamio鈥檚 Mike Murtagh and Alberni Valley鈥檚 Nicholas are tied for second in BCHL scoring with 46 points, while Warriors forward Felix Caron is right behind them at 43 points. Caron also leads the league in goals with 23.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. on both nights.

91大黄鸭 Chiefs

After a tough weekend, the Chiefs are looking for a better result against the Summerland Steam on Saturday night.

Last weekend, 91大黄鸭 lost 8-0 to Princeton and 3-0 to Summerland.

The Chiefs (12-22-3-1) and the Steam (9-24-3-1) sit fourth and fifth in the Bill Ohlhausen Division respectively.

Friday night鈥檚 matchup is the second of three straight games between the two teams.

Puck drop in Summerland is at 7:30 p.m.

UBCO Heat

The UBC Okanagan men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams are hosting Firefighter Appreciation Night at the UBCO Furnace on Friday night.

Both teams are welcoming the MacEwen Griffins to town. The women play at 5 p.m. while the men play at 7 p.m.
