Ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday afternoon, the 91大黄鸭 sports scene has a busy upcoming weekend.
91大黄鸭 Rockets
After a mid-week shutout win over Victoria, the 91大黄鸭 Rockets are set for another home-and-home weekend against their rivals, the Kamloops Blazers.
This is the second home-and-home series in three weeks between the two teams. Kamloops won both games in that series on Jan. 26 and 27, winning 4-3 in overtime and 3-2.
Going into the weekend, the Rockets are in sole possession of sixth place in the Western Conference with a record of 23-24-3-0. Meanwhile, the Blazers are last in the West, sitting at 15-29-3-2.
Friday night鈥檚 contest is taking place at the Sandman Centre in Kamloops at 7 p.m. while Saturday鈥檚 game is back at Prospera Place at 7:05 p.m.
On Saturday night, the Rockets are hosting their Rockets Hockey Gives Blood/Canadian Blood Services game, as they try to make a positive impact in the community through plasma donation awareness. The event is to encourage fans to book an appointment to give blood, and plasma or join the stem cell registry to help patients in need.
West 91大黄鸭 Warriors
From Vancouver Island to the Kootenays, the West 91大黄鸭 Warriors continue their four-game road trip in Cranbrook and Trail this weekend.
The Warriors are coming off a split weekend on the island in which they beat Nanaimo 6-3 but fell to Alberni Valley 3-1. Now they鈥檙e set to take on some Interior Conference rivals they haven鈥檛 seen in a while.
On Friday, Feb. 9, the Warriors are in Cranbrook to take on the Bucks, who they haven鈥檛 played against since Jan. 6. In that contest at Royal LePage Place, the Warriors fell 6-4.
The following night, they鈥檒l be taking on the Trail Smoke Eaters. Saturday will mark two months and a day since they last faced each other, in what was a 6-3 win for West 91大黄鸭 on home ice.
Going into the weekend, the Warriors are second in the Interior Conference with a record of 24-8-6-0. There is a 12-point gap between the Warriors and the Smoke Eaters, as Trail is fifth in the Interior sitting at 18-14-6-0. Cranbrook is 16-23-2-0, one spot behind Trail despite having an eight-point difference between the two teams.
Puck drop at Western Financial Place in Cranbrook on Friday night is set for 6 p.m. Pacific time while Saturday鈥檚 at Cominco Arena is at 7 p.m.
91大黄鸭 Chiefs
Winners of three games in a row, the 91大黄鸭 Chiefs look to continue their streak against one of the league鈥檚 best teams on Friday night.
The Chiefs are heading south to take on the Princeton Posse on Feb. 9.
With their three-game winning streak, the Chiefs have clinched a playoff spot and are 15-22-3-1 on the season, third in the Bill Ohlhausen division. Princeton is currently tied with Revelstoke for the best team in the KIJHL, with a record of 31-8-0-1. The Posse have clinched the Bill Ohlhausen division.
Friday night鈥檚 puck drop at Princeton & District Arena is set for 7 p.m.
UBCO Heat
It鈥檚 sure to be a fun night at the UBCO Gymnasium on Friday night as the Heat are hosting their third annual Pride Night.
Both the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 volleyball teams take the court, as they welcome the University of Fraser Valley Cascades to town. The women play at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7 p.m.
鈥淭he event will be an opportunity for the Heat and their fans to celebrate inclusivity both in sport and on the UBCO campus,鈥� said the university in a release. 鈥淭he evening will feature a number of free giveaways for fans, a 360-degree photo booth courtesy of Lululemon as well as the opportunity to purchase limited edition Heat pride t-shirts for $20.鈥�
In between the second and third set of both games, there will also be a contest for a chance to win one of the limited edition pride t-shirts.
