GPS directions left a group of people stranded in a remote area west of Chase that could only be accessed by a search and rescue team.

Just after 4 p.m. on April 7, Chase RCMP received a report of an iPhone Satellite Emergency SOS, and were told three people in a Kia Sorento were stuck on Martin Prairie Forest Service Road.

鈥淭he driver followed GPS navigation directions until they could go no further,鈥 Const. Sarah Van Wilgenburg explained in a May 2 media release.

She added the trio were not dressed for walking and couldn鈥檛 get cell service in the remote location that was inaccessible to emergency crews.

鈥淭he road was impassable to local tow trucks, as well as to police vehicles,鈥 Van Wilgenburg said.

RCMP called in Kamloops Search and Rescue, with that crew was able to save the group from their predicament.

GPS has proven to be unreliable more that once lately lately, most recently on April 27 when a semi-truck driver submerged his rig in Osoyoos Lake after directions sent him down the boat ramp.
