UBC Okanagan鈥檚 upcoming distinguished speaker Naomi Klein suggests we should forget everything we know about global warming. The truth, she says, is that it's not about carbon: it's about capitalism.
In her most provocative talk yet, Klein tackles the most profound threat humanity has ever faced: the war our economic model is waging against life on earth.
Klein argues that society鈥檚 addiction to profit and growth is the environment鈥檚 biggest concern. Climate change, she says, is a wake-up call, a powerful message delivered in the language of fires, floods, storms, and droughts. Confronting it is no longer about changing the light bulbs. It鈥檚 about changing the world.
Klein鈥檚 presentation, part of the UBC Okanagan鈥檚 Irving K. Barber School's Distinguished Speaker Series, takes place Thursday, Feb.18, 7 p.m., at the 91大黄鸭 Community Theatre, 1375 Water St
