DriveBC and Ministry of Transportation and Transit staff have advised avalanche-control work will happen Friday from 4 to 6 a.m. along Highway 1 in the Three Valley Gap.
This will close a 15-kilometre stretch west of Revelstoke, between Griffin Lake Avalanche Gate and Clanwilliam Bridge, for the two hours, according to DriveBC.
Kieran Lee Kam of the ministry's district operations said Parks Canada will later perform separate avalanche-control work east between Revelstoke and Golden, proposed for 9 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Saturday with a Highway 1 closure for 142 kilometres between Revelstoke's Townley Street and Golden's 14th Street North and no detour available.
"Things are kind of fluid with the weather right now, as you can probably tell," he noted.
The ministry's work in the Three Valley Gap from 4 to 6 a.m. Friday, due to happening before daylight, will utilize remotely-activated avalanche triggers. It's expected to have minimal impact on traffic at those hours, and may be inaudible from Revelstoke.
DriveBC will provide further updates as of 6 a.m. Friday.
