British Columbians saved 24 megawatts of electricity during Earth Hour this Saturday night, according to BC Hydro. That works out to a 0.3 per cent decrease in the provincial electricity load.

Earth Hour is a global event hosted by the World Wildlife Fund where people around the world turn off unnecessary lights and electronic for one hour. In B.C., that fell from 8:30-9:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The province saved an extra nine kilowatts of electricity compared to 2015, the last time that BC Hydro kept statistics. There are no 2016 statistics for Earth Hour power savings.
