Two BC Transit passengers were injured after the bus they were riding collided with an SUV.

The incident happened just before 11 a.m. Friday morning on Pandosy Street near Royal Avenue.

According to Cpl. Jesse O鈥橠onaghey the bus was in the process of merging back onto the roadway from a stop, when the driver of a Mercedes SUV passed and pulled in front of the bus using the left hand turn lane of the roadway.

The transit driver was forced to brake suddenly, causing several passengers to lurch forward.

Parts of the bus caused relatively minor damage to the SUV, the bus itself appeared undamaged.

鈥淎t least one passenger was thrown from her seat and landed on the floor,鈥 stated O鈥橠onaghey. 鈥淪he was assessed and was provided minor treatment at the scene.鈥

It is also reported that another passenger, who had been standing at the time, struck a pole. He sustained what are believed to be minor non-life threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.

A woman and her baby, in a stroller, also on board were reportedly uninjured.

The driver of the Mercedes, a woman in her 40鈥檚, has been ticketed under the Motor Vehicle Act for the alleged unsafe lane change.

鈥淩CMP would like to remind motorists left hand turn lanes should not be utilized for passing other vehicles,鈥 said O鈥橠onaghey.
