An open house at Glenmore Landfill was well attended.
According to City of 91大黄鸭 utility planning manager Andrew Reeder, more than 80 people attended, Feb. 21.
The open house was held as the city plans to increase the slopes on the Northern side of the landfill in order to build a taller landfill.
鈥淭t鈥檚 going to add 25 years of life in the future,鈥 he said.
The slopes will save money in the long run, Reeder estimates a billion dollars in savings.
鈥淚f we want to realize that possibility in the future, we have to build it now,鈥 he said.
Raising the sides don鈥檛 add extra costs, 鈥渋t鈥檚 a function on how we build it,鈥 said Reeder.
鈥淚f anything it should help reduce costs.鈥
The Glenmore Landfill currently takes wastes from the region, including: Lake Country, Big White, Regional District of the Central Okanagan and West 91大黄鸭.
Reeder thinks the slopes will be increased in about a year after the plan goes to city council and the ministry.
