Work on the Highway 1 four-laning project at Chase is expected to resume before the end of spring, with completion now expected in the new year.

In response to word the project had been delayed for technical reasons, the Observer contacted the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure. In an April 23 email, the ministry explained the project is now scheduled to be completed in 2025 due to adjustments in the scope of work at the site.

鈥淪lope stabilization needs to be completed along with remaining overpass and grading work,鈥 said the ministry, noting a slope stabilization design in place 鈥渢hat will involve the completion of rock bolting, similar to the work what was done last construction season.鈥

The ministry said it anticipates work will begin before the end of spring 2024.

The western portion of the project has been completed. That involved widening at 3.3-kilometre section of the Trans-Canada Highway to four lanes. The 鈥淐hase East鈥 portion of the project remains under construction. This involves four-laning a 1.6-kilometre section of the highway, with a new grade-separated interchange at Brooke Drive, two grade-separated pedestrian connections to Scatchard Trail, municipal infrastructure improvements and improvements to traffic and pedestrian safety along Brooke Drive to Shuswap Avenue.
