Driver flees crash after shearing Enderby power pole

The force of the damage was so intense that it ripped the power and communication wires right out of the side of Naomi McGeachy's home

Enderby Grindrod Road residents are used to drivers speeding along the rural road. But one driver got so out of hand they ended up crashing into a utility pole early Thursday morning.

Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to the area around Mowat Road and found a small grey Nissan Sentra unoccupied.

"The investigation has determined that around 12:40 a.m., the vehicle was travelling north on Enderby Grindrod Road when it collided with the pole, resulting in significant damage to both the vehicle and the infrastructure," said Const. Chris Terleski, media relations officer. "No injuries have been reported and the collision remains under investigation."

The force of the damage was so intense that it ripped the power and communication wires right out of the side of Naomi McGeachy's home.

She heard some odd noises at the time and looked out her window to see a car sitting in her yard and the power pole sheared off.

"The person driving the car took off after the accident," McGeachy said, adding the car travelled approximately 150 feet through the yard before it came to a stop.

"Sadly, our road is used as a race track all the time."

Now she is left having to deal with ICBC, house insurance and trying to get power back to her home.

"It's going to be a nightmare to deal with."
